Revinetix RevOS LiveBMR Bare Metal Backup and Restore (BMR) lets you capture a system-restorable backup image of a client computer while its operating system and applications continue to run, allowing for uninterrupted service while things are running smoothly, and fast recovery when disaster strikes.

LiveBMR supports a wide range of hardware and incorporates enhanced functionality and usability. Live BMR supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit only), Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

There are two parts to a LiveBMR backup job: the "file data" and the "configuration data". LiveBMR backups augment the file data specified in a client's file set (Starting Directories and Files entries) with any "critical" files and disks required to restore the system from scratch. This happens automatically when the job is run with LiveBMR enabled.

In addition to file data, each LiveBMR backup job's configuration data is backed up in order to restore a working OS. The size of the configuration data remains fairly constant regardless of backup level (full, differential, or incremental). Given the configuration data's size, it is sometimes larger than the file data for differentials and incrementals. For this reason, we recommend that you create additional clients for the LiveBMR backups and schedule them independently of their clients' regular file backups.

The Revinetix Management Console in RevOS allows you to see all clients on the appliance. Where LiveBMR backup jobs for a client are available, you can select any available restore point by using the simple slider selector within the user interface. With a click of your mouse button, the restore process begins and your bootable operating system and data are restored.
